Waking Up

One of my teachers always gives a short but clever talk about observing the first breath you take after you sleep has ended and the waking state begins. At first I took it as a challenge, but now I see it as a gift.
Waking up and observing the first breath brings us directly to our practice of mindfulness and awareness. Of course it is a challenge, but it is fun and well worth the effort.
Then spend a minute in bed – feel your breath move, feel your body begin to move. Bring positive thoughts to your mind and let them be the first thing that invigorates your day.
Have a great day and then see if you can observe the last breath you take before you go to sleep.
